Russian Language Mentor's

Country Study ePortfolio

"It's significant that we call it the Information Age.
We don't talk about the Knowledge Age."

-- Dr. James Billington, Librarian of Congress

This Country Study ePortfolio consists of a generic template of questions designed to guide learners through a study of Internet resources (webliographies) that have been identified for a specific target country.

The end product - the completed workbook assembled by the learner - will contain basic target country information as well as a guide to useful Internet resources for future reference and study.

Language/country-specific webliographies are now available on the Interagency Language Roundtable homepage (see below). Webliographies for Russian and other Slavic and East European languages link to the SEELRC website.

The ePortfolio consists of 50 questions, each with three parts. Part A asks for basic factual information. Parts B and C ask for an expansion of that information which will require further and deeper research. The 50 questions cover the entire spectrum of target knowledge, including geography, politics, history, economics, health issues, the military, and many other topics.

The ePortfolio can be downloaded to your computer by opening and then simply copying and pasting the "ePortfolio 50 Questions" link below into a word editor like Microsoft Word.

For a quick download open a blank word document. Open the "ePortfolio" and press "Control" and "a" - the entire ePortfolio document will become highlighted; then press "Control" and "c"; go to blank word document and press "Control" and "v" and the ePortfolio will be copied to the word document.

STRATEGIES
  • Begin by thoroughly previewing both the 50 questions that make up the ePortfolio and the Webliography BEFORE you begin working.
